Subject: 790 Foothill Blvd
Please Forward to the San Luis Obispo City Planning Commission:
Dear Members of the City Planning Commission:
As a 40 plus year resident of the city of San Luis Obispo and because I am unable to attend this evening's
Commission meeting due to a scheduling conflict, I am submitting the following comments re your
review of the 790 Foothill project:
1. The project is too massive for the 790 Foothill site.
2. The project should be scaled back in size and height--3 or fewer floors, with reasonable setbacks from
the sidewalk. The existing monstrosity at Chorro and Foothill should not be repeated.
3. Off street parking near the 790 Foothill site is currently inadequate and will be substantially
worsened by the proposed structure.
4. Most, if not all, of the apartments proposed for 790 Foothill will be taken up by Cal Poly
students. While additional student housing is needed, that housing should be constructed on the Cal
Poly campus, and not in massive structures on tiny plots of land in districts surrounding the
campus. The city of San Luis Obispo should strongly support and encourage Cal Poly President Jeffrey
Armstrong and the California State University Board of Trustees of Trustees to immediately begin
planning for construction of student apartment complexes on the Cal Poly campus. Public-private
apartment projects are part of the answer and have been successfully completed at other universities.
5. The Planning Commission should not move forward with this project in its current form until after the
November council and mayoralty elections when the voters will have an opportunity to express their
views on the appropriate direction for commercial structure height limits and structure size/lot size
issues, as well as related city neighborhood issues.
Thank you for considering the above comments.

Sincerely,
Dan Bertozzi
