Dear Commissioners,
Yours is a thankless and demanding job. I understand this, and I thank you for spending countless hours on city
problems. Last night, I saw you shuffling uneasily on your chairs, obviously unhappy with the dreadful proposal you
were reviewing, and yet you voted for it. You could, at least, have all abstained, and it would have sent a message that
something was very wrong. You could also have stopped the Staff from dictating what you were supposed to do. You
could, also, have carefully read the letter from the lawyer (Kan) hired by the Foothill Civil Defense group, and answered
the points of contention that this lawyer made. But you did not.
Does this new housing law mean that we are living in a dictatorship, and that no one dares to stand up to it? Please,
help us fight this destructive law. Help us showing it for what it is: easy to abuse, easy to turn our California coastal
cities into concrete, and easy to lure the worst kind of developers toward lovely but sleepy cities like ours, that have
never seen anything like this before.
Odile Ayral
