Honorable Commissioners,
First, full disclosure, I am a cyclist, pedestrian and driver within the Anholm neighborhood,
and have never felt unsafe, while riding sensibly and alertly.
But, I write in complete amazement as to what is happening in our neighborhood.
Two weeks ago staff advised you to vote yes to the development at 790 Foothill. You approved it,
4-1 (thank you Mr. Stevenson), in spite of large public outcry, even though you had many reservations, but felt "your
hands were tied." We asked you to PLEASE, at least, delay until a traffic study could be done, AFTER 22 Chorro was filled
and school was back in session.
Tonight staff will ask you to change the city's general plan, by reclassifying our neighborhood streets, so that it will be
okay to increase traffic, so that their bikeway proposal will fit.
Why not ask them to provide a proposal that fits into the existing general plan?!
The thing I find so ironic is that the 790 Foothill's only driveway is right at the top of Broad Street, aiming right down the
"bike blvd".
This makes absolutely no sense! Do you not see this?
By diverting more traffic onto Chorro, with the only driveway in and out of the 22 Chorro development, and all the
round about ways we'll have to maneuver to get to and from the grocery store, is creating an absolute quagmire.
Our quiet, special neighborhood is under attack.
This many developments, 22 Chorro, 790 Foothill, 71 Palomar, and now diverting our traffic flow,
is too much too ask of ANY neighborhood to bear, all at once.
I hope you are able to look at the big picture here, and pull in the reins on this runaway horse, disguised as city staff.
Please, just muster up some good old common sense.
That's all we can ask.
Thank you,
Debbie Anthony
