RE: CDBG Funding for Cities
Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Bill
Dear Senators Feinstein and Boxer:
I am writing on behalf of the City of San Luis Obispo to express concern of the
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program that is targeted for drastic funding cuts
in the House committee -approved Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (THUD)
Appropriations bill. The bill would cut the CDBG program from $3.15 billion to $2.79 billion.
Any reduction in CDBG funding would severely slow down or eliminate local and state
projects and programs that are directly contributing to local and regional recovery. CDBG is a
vital rresource, providing funding of projects and services that directly impact the lives of low
and moderate income citizens. CDBG provides the flexibility to fund a myriad of activities, fill
gaps where needed, and leverage and attract additional resources to projects. This combination
of CDBG with other resources adds to our local economy through the purchase of goods and
services and adds to the betterment of the lives of our local citizenry through improved
neighborhoods and quality of life.
We urge you to oppose legislation that would eliminate or reduce funding to this
important program.
Sincerely,
t1
