HomeMy WebLinkAbout Ordinance 430 - (1968)ORDINANCE NO. 430 (1968 Series) INITIATIVE ORDINANCE TO PROHIBIT THE REALIGNMENT OF MONTEREY STREET BETWEEN CHOR O STREET AND BROAD STREET; TO CLOSE A PORTION OF MONTEREY STREET TO MOTOR VEHICULAR USE, EXCEPT FOR CIVIC AND RELIGIOUS PROCESSIONS; AND FURTHER, TO PROVIDE THAT SAID PORTION OF MONTEREY STREET BE IN- CORPORATED INTO MISSION PLAZA. The People of the City of San Luis Obispo do ordain as follows: SECTION 1: That Monterey Street not be realigned between Chorro Street and Broad Street. SECTION 2: That Monterey Street, from the westerly line of Chorro Street to a prolongation of the easterly line of the "Warden Bridge" right -of -way, be closed to motor vehicular use; provided that nothing herein contained shall be deemed to prohibit the operation of motor vehicular traffic on said portion of Monterey Street when the same is used in connection with civic or religious processions. SECTION 3: That that portion of Monterey Street described in Section 2, on which general motor vehicular traffic is prohibited, be incorporated into a Mission Plaza. SECTION 4: This ordinance shall become a valid and binding ordinance of the City of San Luis Obispo if the majority of voters voting on the proposed ordinance vote in its favor, and shall be considered as adopted upon the date that the vote is declared by the City Council of said City, and shall go into effect ten days after that date. SECTION 5: If any provision of this ordinance or the application to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications .. of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be -severable.
